Billing Practice Alert – Dr Comfort shoes

Please be aware of a concerning trend to bill Dr Comfort shoes/boots as Custom-made surgical shoes/boots.  This billing practice has been raised by the funders and you will be investigated. Even if you add custom foot orthotics, this remains stock footwear and needs to be billed under the correct NAPPI code (manufacturer and style specific) with 10103/10106 if custom foot orthotics are included.  The “creative” billing of stock footwear under 10139/10142 amounts to fraud! Please use the correct professional codes to ensure ethical practice and the future of our profession.
Discovery PMB approvals

Discovery have added an additional 20 consultants to assist with PMB applications which appears to be running more efficiently, however the problem remains with the Rule Exception department when payment is required. We have requested a dedicated person for SAOPA members to submit their PMB payment queries to whilst Discovery attends to the overall issue. We are awaiting allocation thereof and will keep you informed of our progress.
